After a quick swim at the back beach at Cape Leveque we packed up and visited the community and hatchery at One Arm Point. This is the Aboriginal town right at the tip of Cape Leveque. We walked thru the hatchery and saw all the types of fish that live in the area.
Then we stopped in at the Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm but had to wait for an hour and a half to go on the pearl farm tour so we just had a quick look and headed back to Broome. The road had just been graded on the way back and it was super smooth so it was a much quicker trip back.
For the next 10 nights in Broome we had a great time with Robyn and Stan. We visited the beach alot and enjoyed some more beautiful sunsets over the water.
We visited the Broome Bird Park and The Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Farm. It was great to watch the crocodiles get fed as there was 70 in 1 large enclosure.
The boys watched more local AFL which they enjoyed.
We watched crab racing at the Divers Tavern but didn't stay long as a schooner of beer was $11.00 served in a plastic cup. That was one thing that we found about Broome was that it is super expensive.
We were lucky enough to catch up with the Bishop family again and we went to Matso's Brewery for lunch which was really nice and then had drinks at Zanders for sunset.
The next night the Bishops and Peterson's all went to the Outdoor Sun Cinemas and watched Eddy the Eagle. The kids really enjoyed lying on the grass and watching the movie especially when a massive plane would fly straight above on it's way to the airport.
The famous camel ride on Cable Beach was an experience!! Michael and Mitch had the camel in front of Cooper and I and Robyn and Stan had the one behind us. The camel that Robyn and Stan had was the noisiest and the naughiest. He had a mouth strap on and we had been told not to touch or pat him as he doesn't like it. Apparently he had bitten a handler in his early days!!! So the camels all got up one by one and made lots of noise. Cooper and my camel got up too quick so he was told to sit back down again. By this time Cooper is freaking out with all the noise and close to tears, I was terrified thinking that the camel behind is going to bite my scalp off as I was under it's head. Once our camel was sitting down again then he was told to stand back up again. This felt like the longest minute of our lives. The camel ride was fun but the whole time I was expecting to get bitten and my heart was racing. The others enjoyed it. Cooper and I couldn't wait to get off.
We also went on the Pearl Luggers tour and learnt alot about pearling back in the day. The kids got to hold the divers suits that they used to use. They were extremely heavy. We also got to hold a single pearl that is worth $10,000. We learnt alot that day about the industry.
The boys had taken their boogie boards down the beach for a surf and when we got back to the caravan we put them on the roof of the car to dry over night. When we got up early the next day we went for a drive down to the beach next to the race course to see the horses train on the beach. When we got back we realised that we hadn't taken the boards off the roof and they must have blown off somewhere along the way. So that afternoon we went shopping and bought the boys new ones, then they went down the beach and rode them down the sand dunes.
On Robyn and Stan's last day we all drove onto to the beach and spent most of the day lazing around and swimming. We decided to go and do some food shopping so we left only to be told later on that the beach was closed an hour after we had left because a crocodile had been spotted off the beach...
That night we all had dinner together on the beach behind our cars watching the sunset before Robyn and Stan left for their journey home the next day.
We decided to stay for another 2 nights so we could go to the Broome Races. We had a great day out and had a few winners. They had tables of differnt card and gambling games and the boys got to watch Michael play races the aces. At the end of the races the band starts and then the two up gets under way. It was fun to watch Michael in the ring.
The next day we packed our car for our next adventure of camping along The Gibb River Road from the Derby end and got organised. We took the boys to Gantheaume Point for a walk to look at the lighthouse and the replica dinosaur foot prints. There are real dinosaur foot prints in the water off the coast a few hundred meters but you can only get to it on low tide and the whole time that we were their it was a high tide, so we didn't get to see the real ones. Just the replica ones at the lighthouse. When we walked out to the cliff's we found heaps of backpackers jumping off them into the ocean below. In true Peterson style all 3 boys had to jump off the highest cliff into the water. They did this a few times and then we started talking to a local fisherman who was baiting his hook up with a huge fish head and we said what are you expecting to catch with that and he said a bloody big fish. Then he proceeded to tell us that a shark had been spotted their a few hours earlier, the boys didn't jump again.
Along the way we have met some really lovely people and we have also met some down right freaks. When we were in Kakadu Michael was talking to a couple and when they were saying their good byes the wife farewelled Michael with a peace, love and mung beans. Michael thought he was hearing things and said parden me and the lady just laughed!!!
Mitch also thinks that there are only 2 types of people travelling. Grey Mads as he calls the Grey Nomads and backpackers. So I don't know what category we fall into!!!!
We really enjoyed Broome and being in the same place for more than 2 nights.
