We were booked into to swim with the whale sharks in Exmouth the next day but we didn't want to leave this beautiful spot so we paid for another night and spent the day in Coral Bay.
People were walking past our site asking how long ago we had booked this site and we told them that we were just lucky and they couldn't believe it. Everyone was asking when we were leaving so they could take the site.
We had a relaxing morning as it was windy. Then we headed north and got back onto the sand tracks and went snorkeling at Oyster Bridge. The water was so clear and you could see so many different types of fish together. I felt safe because we were behind a wall of oyster shells and coral, even though a shark could have swam around it if they wanted too!! We saw whales in the distance splashing around.
Then we drove out of the dunes and went to inflate the tyres when we found a big egg shape on one of the tyres. We had heard a noise earlier but we couldn't see anything.
So it was back to the caravan and Michael changed the tyre.
We thought all was fixed so we went across to the beach and did the free fish feeding. Approx. 20 fish come and you all stand in a line in ankle deep water and feed the fish. Michael had another snorkel and the boys and I sat on the beach.
The sun was setting and we were starting to pack up when Michael noticed that the spare tyre that he had just put on looked like it was going down. It was like what next!! We had to be in Exmouth by 7am in the morning.
Michael took the car to the garage and pumped it up again and then we waited to see if we could notice any change. In the mean time we had met some lovely people the day before on the site next door to us, who were very concerned about us driving to Exmouth in the dark. They had offered to come and help or pick us up if anything should happen along the way.
John, Sue, Tom and Emma had been waiting in Exmouth for us to arrive. I called them and told them of our situation and they were more than happy to come and deliver a spare tyre to us if we needed it.
We have met some really lovely people along the way who just want to help.
It was another nerve racking drive as it was dark but everything went well and we arrived in Exmouth at 9pm.
We were so relieved to have arrived that we had a drink with John and Sue even though it was getting late.
The next morning we all got picked up at 7.30am for swimming with the whale sharks and headed to the Jetty. It was really windy when we got on the boat so our morning snorkel got cancelled and we headed to the outer reef where the whale sharks would be.
We all got our gear on and had a practice snorkel to run thru what we would do later on with the whale sharks. I was really surprised that I could jump off the back of the boat in the middle of nowhere and not be scared. It was an amazing experience. We didn't see much on the practice snorkel and then I looked up and saw 2 humpback whales swimming a hundred metres from us. It was awesome to think that they were so close. The boys dived down in the water and they could hear the whales talking.
Then it was back to the boat and we waited until the spotter plane had spotted a whale shark. It took a few hours and then they found one. It was 7 metres long. We all jumped off the back of the boat and looked straight down and it was directly below us. It was massive!! We got to swim with it twice and then it dived very deep and it wasn't spotted again.
The dive instructers asked if anyone wanted to swim with a Manta Ray and we were super keen. So we all jumped back in and chased a Manta Ray. It was swimming very quick, Michael followed it for a few minutes and got some amazing footage on his gopro. We were lucky enough to find another Manta Ray and both Michael and I swam with it for a few more minutes as the kids watched from the boat.
The whole experience was very special and it is something we will remember forever.
At the end of the day we had to pick which our best part of the day was and either make a whale shark or a manta ray. Mitch makes a very cute whale shark!!. Cooper, Michael and I chose the Manta Ray.
That night we had a lovely BBQ dinner with John, Sue, Tom and Emma and all reminisced about the amazing day that we had had.
