11 September 2016 - Day 162 - Nullabor

We packed up and got on the road by 8.30am.

When we had arrived the day before at the Duke of Orleans we had noticed that the plugs between the caravan and car had burnt out on one of the pins.  So we headed straight for Repco at Esperance and bought two new plugs.

Then we did some food shopping before driving inland the 210 kms to Norsemans which is where the Nullabor drive starts.

While in Norseman we couldn't not go to the Beacon Hill Lookout.  It was nothing special but you could see over the flat plains below.

Then the kids had another quick go on the local skatepark.  It is the first skatepark that we have seen that has rocks cemented into the park.  I don't know if it was for decoration or to make obstacles that you could hurt yourself on!!!

The town Norseman got it's name from Mr Laurie Sinclair on 13th August 1894, when his horse pawed up a very large piece of gold.  The horses name was Norseman and this was the start of the gold rush in the town.

One of the things the town is known for are the corrigated iron camels in the middle of the roundabout in the centre of town.  So I had to jump out of the car and take a photo.

Then we started our drive across the Nullabor.

We drove for around another 200 kms and got to the start of the 90 Mile Straight.  Which is Australia's longest straight road at 146.6 km.

Michael was driving with no hands, it was that straight.

The sun was starting to go down and we wanted to re-wire the plugs before tomorrow's big drive, so we found a great free camp and quickly set up and lit the fire before we got to work.  It was cold but we managed to get the job done.

That night we had another nice camp fire which kept us warm.
