We said goodbye to Naomi and left Perth at 10am and headed to Busselton.
On the way we stopped in at The Old Cheddar Cheese Co. and bought 4 little blocks fo cheese for $12.00. We really enjoyed tasting all the yummy types of cheese.
We dropped the caravan off at the Big 4 Mandalay Caravan Park and headed straight for the skatepark as we had heard that it was pretty impressive. As we arrived it started to rain so we had a change of plans and went to a small 12D cinema that seated approx. 20 people. We watched 2 short movies that ranged between 3 - 10 minutes in length. The chairs moved and we had water sprayed on us along with smoke and things touched our legs. It felt like you were in a simulator.
The kids wanted to go on the waterslide back at the caravan park so we headed back and they put their wetsuits on as it was cold. The caravan park also had a heated pool, jumping pillow, cool playground and heaps of grass for the kids to play on. All the facilities in the park were really new including the bathrooms. This would have to be the best caravan park that we have stayed at but it was also the most expensive at $63.00 per night with the Big 4 discount.
We had a surprise visit from Tim Shannon's Dad, Jim. It was lovely to see him again and he invited us to stay at his place the next night.
Michael got up super early and went for a surf with Brendan Marley. They surfed at Yullingup in the freezing cold. The kids and I were very happy when Michael returned and hadn't been eaten by a shark!!
Then we packed up the caravan and went and parked it on the vacant block next to Jim's house before we drove down to Margaret River.
Our first stop was at the funky Margaret River Bakery and had some morning tea.
The next stop was The August Lighthouse.
We then drove and looked at Hamelin Bay and the surf at Margaret River and Prevelly.
Margaret River Chocolate Co. was next on the list. As soon as you walk in the door they have massive bowls of milk, dark and white chocolate buds that you can taste test. We all had our fair share and the kids had an ice cream each. Mitch found the world's biggest freckle!!
Michael bought a few bottles of red at The Hay Shed Hill Winery before we stopped off at the Cheeky Monkey Brewery.
We had a quick walk out to the Canal Rocks before we went on the Ngilgi Cave's Tour. The formation in the caves was amazing. The guide had told us to lie on the ground in the main cave and to close our eyes for 10 seconds before opening them. We did this and it looked like your were flying over the formations. We really enjoyed walking thru the cave.
Then we headed back to Busselton and Jim took us down to the beach to meet up with his Sister Kate and her Husband Mike along with their Daughter Holly and her 2 cute girls, Sohpia and Georgina. We had a great night chatting and eating kebabs even though the wind was freezing.
The next morning was Father's Day and the kids took Michael to McDonald's for breakfast.
We then went to the local markets and bought some fruit before we walked out along the 1.8 klm
Busselton Jetty. The weather was beautiful and we really enjoyed the walk. On the way back we caught the train and Mitch made it his mission to high five everybody that walked past. He even had the granny behind him doing the same thing!!!!
The boys had a quick ride on the skatepark with every other person in Busselton but they still had a good time.
We then went to Brendan and Tor Marley's for a lovely BBQ lunch. It was really nice to catch up with them again and the boys had a great time with their Son, Nash. Our boys didn't want to leave and thought that Nash lived in the best place ever because you can ride your skateboards on the road and they made a base/cubby at the local park.
Then we drove down to Yullingup so Michael could show us where he surfed the day before and we watched the sunset.
That night we chatted wih Jim and had a nice quiet night.
A massive thanks to Jim for letting us stay at his place for 2 nights. Michael really enjoyed catching up with him again after all this time.
